Mid-State Technical College (MSTC) recently celebrated the grand opening of its state-of-the-art Advanced Manufacturing, Engineering Technology, and Apprenticeship (AMETA) Center. The ribbon-cutting ceremony, held at the Wisconsin Rapids Campus, marked the culmination of five years of planning and construction. This milestone represents a significant achievement in the college’s ongoing commitment to providing cutting-edge education and training in advanced manufacturing and engineering technologies.

A Hub for Innovation and Education

The AMETA Center was designed to be a hub for innovation, offering students, educators, and industry professionals access to the latest technology and training in the field. This 48,000-square-foot facility is equipped with advanced manufacturing equipment, including a precision machining and inspection equipment, robotic machine tending, automation and robotics, Industry 4.0 and process control automation.

The center’s primary goal is to bridge the gap between education and industry, ensuring that students are well-prepared for the workforce and that local businesses have access to skilled professionals.

“Mid-State is a special place where our exceptional staff and faculty transform lives through teaching and learning every single day. The AMETA Center will further that mission,” said MSTC President Dr. Shelly Mondeik. “AMETA is critical to workforce and economic development and provides us another valuable tool in graduating students who are skilled and ready for employment.”

State-of-the-Art Facilities

The AMETA Center boasts four main labs and eight additional classrooms. In partnership with LAB Midwest, the state-of-the-art labs will feature technologies from Amatrol, FANUC, and OTTO. New and expanded training programs to be offered at the facility include:

Community Engagement and Industry Partnerships

MSTC’s strong partnerships with local industries played a crucial role in the success of the AMETA Center. 300 regional employers and individual donors attended the opening ceremony and were recognized for their combined $5 million in contributions. Additional funding came from a Wisconsin Workforce Innovation Grant, family donors and business partners for a total of $23 million.

Governor Tony Evers spoke on the impact this facility will have on Wisconsin’s workforce. ““This new center will bolster the state’s workforce and… will help meet the rising demand for skilled workers.”

Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce (WMC) was on hand at the event, and CEO Kurt Bauer applauded the facility’s potential to generate a pipeline of skilled talent in manufacturing and the skilled trades. “The training here is critical,” he added.

Preparing the Workforce of the Future

The AMETA Center is more than just a building; it is a cornerstone of MSTC’s mission to prepare students for successful careers in advanced manufacturing and engineering. By providing hands-on training with the latest technology, the center helps students develop the skills and knowledge needed to excel in their chosen fields. This focus on practical, industry-aligned education ensures that graduates are ready to meet the demands of the modern workforce.
