Learning Outcomes

The NeuroMaker Hand 2.0 delivers over 40 hours of modular curriculum (expandable to 100+ hours with add-ons), aligned to STEM and CTE standards for grades 6–12. Through scaffolded projects and real-world challenges, students engage in hands-on learning that builds both technical skills and career readiness.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Build and Operate a Functional Prosthetic Hand: Learn mechanical assembly, tendon-driven movement, and electronic wiring using real components modeled after industry prosthetics.

  • Program Using Multiple Languages: Begin with block-based coding, then transition to text-based programming using Arduino C and Python, gaining confidence across coding environments.

  • Integrate Advanced Input/Output Systems: Use the IR remote, and with the optional BioSensor Kit, incorporate inputs like:

    • EMG (muscle signal) sensors
    • Flex sensors
    • Temperature sensors
    • Ultrasonic distance sensors
    • Color sensors
    • Hall effect sensors, and more
    • Explore outputs like RGB LEDs, servo motors, and programmable feedback systems.
  • Connect to Microcontrollers and Third-Party Devices: Extend projects using micro:bit, Raspberry Pi, and other boards to drive the hand or collect sensor data—supporting cross-platform integration and creative experimentation.

  • Explore Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) Integration: With the NeuroMaker BCI headset (sold separately), students control the hand using brainwaves, gaining experience in EEG signal interpretation and the future of assistive tech.

  • Understand the Ethics and Applications of AI: Learn foundational AI and machine learning concepts as they relate to prosthetics, healthcare, and accessibility—then discuss the societal impact of emerging technologies.

  • Engage in Real-World Projects and Capstones: Complete a series of scaffolded challenges culminating in a capstone design project, such as engineering a prosthetic hand to assist with daily tasks in a simulated environment.

Educators receive:

  • Modular lesson plans, teacher guides, and student lab notebooks
  • Built-in assessments and rubrics for project-based learning
  • Curriculum in both English and Spanish
  • Support for flexible use in classrooms, STEM labs, or afterschool settings
