The purpose of the Certified Production Technician (CPT) ® 4.0 certification program is to certify individuals who demonstrate mastery of the core skills required for entry-level advanced manufacturing jobs, particularly those in a production environment. This program is ideal for learners with limited or no prior knowledge of manufacturing to begin a career pathway in the high-wage, high-skilled manufacturing sector.
Learners have the option to earn a CPT (knowledge-based) or CPT+ (hands-on skills) certification. The hands-on assessment is performed on an Amatrol Skill Boss Manufacturing system.
Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC) is an industry-led, training, assessment and certification organization focused on the core skills and knowledge needed by the nation’s front-line production and material handling technicians. They are a federal-government backed, ISO 17024-compliant nonprofit organization.
The CPT program consists of five key areas of focus. Learners can earn individual certificates for each one:
If candidates receive all of the first four certificates, they will receive the full production technician (CPT 4.0) certification. See specification document for more details about the skills and competencies covered in each of these topic areas.
In response to the growing adoption of Industry 4.0 in manufacturing, MSSC has embedded nine Industry 4.0 technologies into the CPT 4.0 program, including 5G, artificial intelligence (AI), the industrial internet of things (IIoT), additive manufacturing (3D), autonomous robots, augmented reality, data analytics, nanomanufacturing, and advanced materials.
The full CPT program includes courses aligned to MSSC standards, online assessments for each of the core areas, and hands-on assessments for the optional CPT+ certification.
CPT 4.0 (Knowledge) Certification: Individuals demonstrate their understanding of the core skills and knowledge through five assessments (including the optional Green Production) based upon MSSC’s industry-defined, nationally validated skill standards. Delivered online or paper pencil, this assessment contains 80-101 multiple-choice questions. MSSC strongly recommends that individuals be at a 9th-grade math and 10th-grade reading level.
CPT+ (Hands-on) Certification: Individuals demonstrate their understanding of the core skills through four competency-based assessments based upon MSSC’s industry-defined, nationally validated skill standards, delivered on the Amatrol Skill Boss Manufacturing system. Users are required to hold the full CPT 4.0 certification before they can sit for a CPT+ certification.
MSSC® delivers its Certified Production Technician (CPT) ® 4.0 courses through well-established training organizations. These courses are designed to align with MSSC Standards and to help individuals enhance their foundational, core technical knowledge and skills for production work from entry-level to front-line supervisory level.
These courses are built upon MSSC’s e-learning which includes modular courses for:
The online, computer-based Certified Production Technician training covers the fundamental and technical skills while providing students and incumbent workers with the knowledge and skills needed to prepare them for an advanced, high-performance manufacturing environment. MSSC strongly recommends that individuals be at a 9th-grade math and 10th-grade reading level before taking our courses.
